Reason for Name: Since a devotee and disciple of Sri Nathamuni called Kannamangai Andan resided inside the Temple and performed service in the Temple here, this place is called Thirukkannamangai. Two devotees with their dogs came to the Temple. The two dogs fought, which led to fight between the devotees. Kannamangai Andan argued that if the fact that one is rearing a dog gives such responsibilities to the owner of the dog and if a dog could create such feelings of responsibility, the the Perumal’s responsibility towards His creatures must be very high indeed. It is said that Kannamangai Andan took the form of a dog and entered the Garbha Graham and joined the Perumal.
